Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement

Medical Journal of Babylon (MJB) is committed to deliver the High standards of Publication Ethics. Medical Journal of Babylon follows the Publication Ethics Statements suggested by Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). Journal takes all the necessary measures for the prevention of possible, related malpractices.

Double Blind Peer Review Process: All the submitted articles to Journal, undergo- Double Blind Peer Review Process, before publication. All the articles not in accordance with Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statements will be removed from the Publication, if Malpractice is discovered at any time, even after the publication.

1 -Responsibilities of Editors:

a) Fair Review: Al the submitted Manuscripts are evaluated on its intellectual contents without regard to Author’s gender, race, religion, citizenship, political philosophy. The peer review must be Fair, Unbiased and Timely.

b) Publication decisions: The decisions of Editors to accept or reject an article for publication are based on the Peer review results, editorial board reviews and Article’s importance.

c) Confidentiality: The Editor in chief, Secretary editor, and editorial staff must not disclose any information about the submitted Manuscripts to any other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other Editorial advisors, and the publisher.

d) Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest : Editors must not use the contents of unpublished material for their own, without the explicit written consent of the author(s). Editors will require reviewers to disclose any potential competing interests before agreeing to review a submission.

2- Responsibilities of Reviewers:

a) Confidentiality: Reviewers, Editorial Staff must not disclose any information regarding submitted manuscripts. Editors must guide, direct the Reviewers to keep the related secrecy and handle the Manuscript in confidence.

b) Promptness: If Reviewers feel that the Topic in Manuscript is not within his Scope of Expertise, then he must inform the Editors immediately, so that the timely review can be ensured.

c) Objectivity Standards: Referees must express their views clearly with appropriate supporting arguments. Personal criticism of the author is not accepted.

d) Acknowledgement of Sources: Reviewers should check all the Cited matter, sources of Data used in the Research. Any previously reported statement/data with observation, derivation should be accompanied by the relevant citation. A reviewer should also inform the editors about similarity or overlap between the manuscript under review and any other published article of which they have personal knowledge.

e) Conflict of Interest: All reviewers should have no conflict of interest with respect to the research, the authors and/or the funding bodies. Reviewers should not consider evaluating manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest.

3- Responsibilities of Authors:

a) Standards of Reporting: Authors should present the accurate data of their research with right objective discussion. Manuscript should contain details of the references used in research work.

b) Originality: Authors must certify that their work is entirely unique and original, except for review articles. The authors should ensure that, if they have used the words, work of others, this has been appropriately cited or quoted.

c) Multiple submissions: Authors should not submit articles describing essentially the same research to more than one Journal. Submitting the same Manuscript to more than one journal constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is not acceptable.

d) Authorship of the Article: The corresponding author should ensure that all the authors and co-authors have seen and approved the final submitted version of the manuscript and their inclusion as co-authors. Manuscript should contain the names, affiliations/place of work of those who have made a significant contribution to conceiving, designing, executing and/or interpreting the submitted study. All those who have significantly contributed to the study should be listed as co-authors.

e) Acknowledgement of Sources: Any previously reported statement/data with observation, derivation should be accompanied by the relevant citation.

f) Data Access and Retention: Authors should retain raw data related to their submitted articles, and must provide it for editorial review, upon request of the editors.

g) Conflict of Interest: All authors should clearly disclose in their manuscript any financial or other conflict of interest.

h) Hazards and human or animal subjects: If the work involves chemicals, procedures or equipment that have any unusual hazards inherent in their use, the authors must clearly mention these in the manuscript.

i) Fundamental Errors in Published Works: When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her submitted manuscript, the author must immediately notify the editors, publisher.

4- Change/Replacement or Modification of Published Article:

a) Withdrawal: The published articles will be withdrawn if the author(s) noticed significant errors. Before processing the withdrawal request, the editorial board will talk with the author(s) sufficiently. If the article is agreed to be withdrawn, the following should follow: The article in journal database should be removed; The link in online publication site should be removed; Withdraw announce will be shown in this article online location.

b) Replacement: The articles published can be replaced if the author(s) send an updated article. Before accepting the replacement request, the editorial board should talk with author(s) sufficiently, and at least 3 reviewers should check the changes. After an update, the old version should be kept separately, and if someone wants to check the old version, the editor can send all the information and files to him/her.

c) Removal: The published articles will be removed if reviewers, readers, librarians, publishers or other subjects noticed a significant errors or plagiarism. Before removing an article, editorial board should talk with authors sufficiently, and should provide enough time to have authors’ explanation. If the article is removed, then it follows: The article in journal database should be removed; The link in online publication site should be removed; The announce will be shown in this article online location.

5- Publisher’s Confirmation and actions:

In case of Plagiarism, Double submissions, Double publications, alleged or proven scientific misconduct, fraudulent publication – the Editorial board will take appropriate measures to clarify the situation and right actions.

The Journal do not discriminate on the basis of national origin, race, religion, creed, disability, age, color, marital status, veteran status, gender, genetic predisposition or sexual orientation in its publishing programs, services and related activities.
